Hair Extension Care

The longevity of your hair extensions is based on how well you care for your extensions.

Tape-in extensions require a reinstall every 4-6 weeks to ensure your look stays in top shape.

Beaded wefts extensions require a reinstall every 8-12weeks.

i-links and keratin bonded extensions vary greatly on person to person. A customized plan will be given to each person so they know when their reinstall is ready.

Care outside of the salon is just as important. Here are some expert hair extension care tips for maintaining your extensions and enhancing their longevity and durability.

How to Wash Hair Extensions

How to Wash Hand-Tied Wefts/Clip-In Extensions

  • For proper hair extension care, the hand-tied wefts or clip-in hair extensions must be hand washed in lukewarm water.

  • Do so one extension at a time to avoid soaking the very top where the clips or threads are located.

  • Gently run the water down from the top of the hair extension down toward the ends. Once hair is fully saturated with water, apply a small amount of shampoo to your hand.

  • Run the shampoo in a downward motion without roughing up the extensions. Roughing the extensions can cause irreparable damage to the extensions.

  • Once the water runs clear from the shampoo, apply conditioner in the same way, and rinse the conditioner thoroughly to avoid coating.

  • Blot dry with a hand towel to remove excess water. Gently dry them on a rack with a brush and blow dryer. The rack ensures less strain on the extensions. Once the extensions are dry remove from the rack and lay flat to continue drying overnight. This keeps the extensions laying flat when they’re ready for wear.

  • Dry at least 99% leaving overnight or 100% for styling.

*Lay flat to dry overnight; do not leave them on the rack. Please note that you should never sleep in clip-in or wefted extensions.

How to Wash Tape-Ins, Beaded Wefts, Keratin and i-Link Extensions

  • For proper hair extension care, the hair must be washed in lukewarm water, not hot. This can lead to the glue separating and no longer being able to bond to the hair or cause the beads to become loose.

  • Wash the hair in a downward movement to keep hair straight and smoothly flowing down your back. Wash gently when washing roots

  • Try not to rough up extensions too much, as this can cause matting of or damage to the extensions on the root area and ends.

  • Apply conditioner starting at the mid-shaft of the hair down to the ends, avoiding the scalp. As this too, can cause glues and beads to either loosen or no longer able to bond to the hair.
